In 1989 he started his professional career at the former Institute for Solid State Physics and Materials Research in Dresden. After a stay at the Vienna University of Technology (Austria) in 1991 he worked from 1992 to 2001 in the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Sintered Materials in the fields of hard materials synthesis and application, characterisation of solid state materials and materials for surface modification technologies as project and group manager. Since 2002 he is group manager for Thermal Spray Technologies at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology (Fh-IWS) in Dresden. Main interests are on ceramic and hardmetal coatings and their application.
