Prof. Dr. Robert Vaßen


Prof. Dr. Robert Vaßen studied Physics at the Rhineland-Westphalian University in Aachen. He obtained his doctorate at the Jülich Research Centre in the field of Solid-State Physics. Since 1990, he has been an employee at the Institute for Energy Research at the Jülich Research Centre. In 1998, he became the Head of the Department for Materials Development in Advanced Power Stations. His main working fields are the development of thermal barrier coats, high-temperature fuel cells and membranes primarily by means of thermal spraying technology. In 2009, he was offered a professorship at the Ruhr University of Bochum in the Ceramic Materials faculty. Robert Vaßen is the author or co-author of more than 200 articles in journals and proceedings. He collaborates in a large number of bodies as well as in the organisation of workshops and conferences. Since 2010, he has also held a visiting professorship at the West University in Trollhättan, Sweden in the Coating Engineering faculty.
