The demand for downsizing as well as for friction and weight reduction in all vehicle classes is leading to further challenges for the manufacturers of cylinder crankcases. Kolbenschmidt Pierburg (KSPG) is facing up to these challenges with the refinement of its casting processes in order to set the most stringent strength requirements as well as to introduce iron-coated liner surfaces as a cylinder liner technology with a reduced friction loss.
