The wish for coatings with ever smoother surfaces, low porosities and high hardnesses cannot be fulfilled solely with the current standard procedures, e.g. atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) or high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying. Below a grain size of approx. 5 µm, the utilised spraying powders can hardly be fed in a way suitable for industrial applications. For this reason, work on the use of suspensions for providing the spraying consumable in the torch has been carried out for a few years. obz innovation gmbh is one of the first companies to investigate the suspension spraying process (SHVOF: high-velocity oxy-fuel with suspension) in the industrial environment of a coating plant and to refine it towards suitability for series processes.
