This article is intended to highlight those initial results with regard to the development of the validation of the particle velocity measurements in high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying processes which have arisen in the course of an IGF research project. In this respect, the general questions about the validation operations with regard to particle velocity measurements are explained first of all. Then, the initial velocity measurement results obtained with different particle diagnosis systems in the HVOF spraying process are portrayed and compared with the results obtained using additional diagnosis methods.
