Cold Spray processing of ultra-thick Al-12Si coatingson light alloys

Al-12Si coatings have been produced on aluminum and magnesium substrates by CGS. The coatings have been optimized by studying the influence of the propellant gas temperature, pressure and stand-off distance. The experiments were produced using a factorial design of experiments to evaluate the effects of spraying parameters on the properties of Al-12Si cold sprayed coatings (thickness, porosity and microhardness). The coatings show the best properties after the experimental design has been selected to obtain an ultra-thick coating (about 3 mm) with minimum porosity, that can be used for component dimension restoration.
