Thermally sprayed coats for the paper and paper-converting industries

Specialist Article

Authors: Dr.-Ing. Jens-Erich Döring, Ing. Franz Kremsner, Dr. techn. Reinhard Polak

Components in paper machines and paper-converting machines are subjected to a complex stress spectrum consisting of corrosion and wear. In aqueous solutions, at elevated temperatures and, in part, when exposed to compressive loads (amongst other conditions), the components here must exhibit the most diverse surface properties such as low wettability, good tensile capacity, electrical insulation and abrasion resistance. With its large number of materials and processes and also because of the utilisation in situ in the paper machine, thermal spraying offers a large number of problem solutions which are presented as examples.
