High velocity oxy fuel spraying on internal surfaces by means of angled torch

Peer-reviewed papers

Authors: Dr. Jörg Oberste Berghaus, Alan Burgess, Dr.-Ing. Andreas Wank

Use of hydrogen fuel HVOF torches type ID-Nova and Mini-Nova enables the production of high-quality metal and cermet coatings on bores with diameter as small as 76 mm. The coatings feature high density, microhardness and bond strength as well as compressive residual stress state. The addition of nitrogen as a process gas results in reduced temperature of spray particles and permits improvement of coating properties for a variety of coating materials. Even reactive high melting point materials like titanium alloys can be sprayed yielding dense coatings with low oxygen content.
